Ancient Heart Anthology is available Pay on Demand through Lulu at
Ancient Heart Magazine, both are edited by Richard James van der
Draaij. This is AHM’s first Anthology and he gives an extensive Preface
on the project, to introduce artists and their work so
they get proper recognition, as well as his own views on the nature of
poetry, where, most briefly summarised, I would say, he maintains that
a poem needs to breathe. Indeed the list of poets who contribute to this
first Anthology number over fifty and only a few appear with more than
one submission, so the variety is considerable. It
consists in a little over a hundred pages, so the reading can be
intense. Many of these contributors have been regulars with the
magazine since its inception over the last few years. Others are
relative newcomers, but each one is provided with a bio to contextualise their written appearance AHM has
maintained a high standard and quality of poetry presented to the
public and it is clear that the editor, himself no mean poet under the
nom de plume Richard James, though he has chosen not to appear in this
volume personally, has gone to considerable efforts to select
quality work by writers with whom he is already acquainted. The result
is an exciting edition, poems on widely varied themes by both new and
experienced poets that I recommend both to the interested layman as
much as to the connoisseur for whom it could prove a valuable
collector’s item.
